The Nightmare Years is a 1984 book byWilliam L. Shirer, recounting his pre-WW2 years as a journalist inNazi Germany.[1]
It is also a 1989 American televisionminiseries directed byAnthony Page. It starsSam Waterston as Shirer, the American reporter stationed inNazi Germany in the 1930s. The supporting cast comprisesMarthe Keller,Kurtwood Smith,Ronald Pickup,Peter Jeffrey,Walter Gotell andGarrick Hagon.
The miniseries premiered onTurner Network Television on September 17, 1989, as a four-part miniseries and was later released onVHS. As of 2014, there are limited versions of the series onDVD.
Principal photography took place inBudapest,Hungary.[2] The production budget of the miniseries cost $12 million, of whichTNT bought the television rights for $3 million.[3]
