The Herald Times Reporter is a dailynewspaper based inManitowoc, Wisconsin and owned byGannett as part of itsUSA Today Network Wisconsin division. The newspaper is distributed primarily throughoutManitowoc County, asGreen Bay andSheboygan have their own Gannett newspapers (and often theHTR itself duplicates the front page of thePress on certain days).
The first newspaper in Manitowoc began in November 1850[2] when a newspaper press was brought on a schooner fromMilwaukee. A weekly newspaper called theWeekly Press was printed; it was renamed theWeekly Herald in 1855. In 1898, theWeekly Herald became a daily newspaper; the Herald-Press Publishing Company was formed and it printed theDaily Herald andWeekly Press. TheWeekly Press was absorbed into theDaily Herald in 1953 and the newspaper became known as theHerald Times. It purchased theTwo Rivers Reporter based in nearbyTwo Rivers in 1970 and the newspaper took its current nameHerald Times Reporter in 1973.[3]
In March 2024, the newspaper announced it will switch from carrier to postal delivery.[4]
