The Charlotte News was the afternoonnewspaper inCharlotte, North Carolina. It was first published on December 8, 1888.[1]: 75  The newspaper was eventually purchased on April 5, 1959 by Knight Newspapers, owner of its larger rivalThe Charlotte Observer.[2] All operations of theNews and theObserver were merged except news and editorial content,[3] which was merged in 1983.[1]: 320 [4] TheNews ceased publication on November 1, 1985.[5][6]
