The Birch is a national biannual undergraduate journal ofEastern European andEurasian culture.
The Birch was established in 2004.[1] The journal, which is run by undergraduates atColumbia University,[2] is the first exclusively undergraduate journal ofSlavic, Eastern European and Eurasian studies in America.[1] It is published biannually, in fall and spring semesters.[1] Any enrolledundergraduate can submit work to one of three sections:creative writing,literary criticism and culture and affairs.[1]The Birch has featuredinterviews with the children ofVladimir Mayakovsky,Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn andBoris Pasternak. The Fall 2006 issue featured an interview withEduard Shevardnadze.
