The Barefoot Emperor is a 2019 Belgiancomedy film directed byJessica Woodworth andPeter Brosens.[1] It was screened in the Contemporary World Cinema section at the2019 Toronto International Film Festival.[2] Filmed on theBrijuni Islands,[3] it is a sequel toKing of the Belgians, a 2016 mockumentary by the same directors. Events from the first movie are briefly recapped at the beginning of the film.[4] As of October 2021[update], 50% of the six reviews compiled onRotten Tomatoes are positive, with an average rating of 5.4/10.[5]
At the11th Magritte Awards,The Barefoot Emperor received a nomination in the category ofBest Flemish Film.[6]
