Thagora was aCarthaginian andRoman town at what is nowTaoura,Algeria.
ThePunic form of its name wasTGRN (𐤕𐤂𐤓𐤍).[1] TheTabula Peutingeriana calls itThacora.
Thagora was an inland trading post controlled byCarthage. It was about 64 kilometers (40 mi) southeast ofHippo Regius.[1] It mintedbronze coins with a bearded headobverse and a prancing horse beneath a starreverse.[1]
Under the Romans, it formed part of theprovince ofNumidia.
Thagora was aChristianbishopric. The names of three of itsdiocesan bishops are known.[2] It fell into abeyance following the Islamic conquest of the Maghreb but was revived by theRoman Catholic Church as atitular see.[3]
