Testerian is a pictorialwriting system that was used until the 19th century to teachChristian doctrine to theindigenous peoples of Mexico, who were unfamiliar withalphabetic writing systems. The invention ofTesterian catechisms is attributed toJacobo de Testera, aFranciscan who arrived in Mexico in 1529.
