
TheTerra di Bari (Italian for "land of Bari"), inantiquityPeucetia and in theMiddle AgesAger Barianus (Latin for "field of Bari"), is the region aroundBari inApulia. Historically it was one of thejusticiarships of theKingdom of Sicily and laterNaples. It became aprovince in theTwo Sicilies. Today it is a part of theProvince of Bari inItaly. Since 2005, according to the municipal government of Bari, it refers to themetropolitan area of the city and istrademarked fortouristic purposes.
To the north of the Terra is theCapitanate and to the south theTerra d'Otranto. It is the onlyplain between theMurgia and theAdriatic and comprises thelittoral, centred on Bari, between the riverOfanto and the city ofFasano.
The ancient name "Peucetia" is derived from its ancient inhabitants, thePeuceti.
