Termera (Ancient Greek:τὰ Τέρμερα), also known asTermerum orTermeron (Τέρμερον), was a maritime town ofancient Caria on the south coast of the peninsula of Halicarnassus, near Cape Termerium.[1][2][3]Stephanus of Byzantium erroneously assigns the town toLycia.[4] It was apolis (city-state) and a member of theDelian League.[5] Under theRomans thisDorian town was a free city. According to theSuda the place gave rise to the proverbial expressionΤερμέρια κακά, it being used as a prison by the rulers of Caria.[6] InGreek mythology, it was founded byTermerus, after whom it was named.
Its site is located nearAsarlık,Asiatic Turkey.[7][8]
