Tensaw is anunincorporated community inBaldwin County,Alabama, United States. It is part of theDaphne–Fairhope–FoleyMicropolitan Statistical Area and is the home of historicFort Mims.
The nameTensaw is derived from the historic indigenousTaensa people.[2] A post office operated under the name Tensaw from 1807 to 1953.[3]
Three former stockade forts used during theCreek War (part of theWar of 1812), were located near Tensaw: Fort Mims (site of theFort Mims massacre),Fort Montgomery, andFort Pierce.[4]
