* = wartime, in opposition

[edit]

The "* = wartime, in opposition" bit is incorrectly placed. I'm not entrirely sure why we have this qualifier at all, as only a few PLP chairs are asterisked. --LukeSurltc16:51, 6 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Internal elections needs expansion

[edit]

There isn't anything in the Internal Election section that covers the leadership elections of Scotland (leader ordeputy) or Wales (leader ordeputy) or any articles of selection processes (ieLondon,Mancheser andMersyside mayoral eletions). Should they be added? If there is no opposition to this ill add them in a month.Jonjonjohny (talk)05:33, 26 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

History section

[edit]

Maybe the history section should include the Zinoviev "letter"?AnonMoos (talk)05:39, 16 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I would agree as it is an important part of the Labour Party's history. Aside from the role it played in the 1924 election, it's impact arguably played an important part in shaping the public's views of the Labour Party throughout the interwar period (egSnowden's infamous charge in 1931 that his former colleagues policies were "Bolshevism run mad" undoubtedly played on the distrust about Labour's imagined connections to the USSR). Equally the letter and the reaction to it meant that Labour moved even further away from working with theCommunist Party of Great Britain and other socialist groups - eg while in 1924 the party did not oppose the CBGP candidate and sometime MPShapurji Saklatvala inBattersea North, it did in 1929.Dunarc (talk)20:19, 23 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Leaders - should this include George Brown, Margaret Beckett and Harriet Harman

[edit]

Currently this list does not include the three individuals who led the Labour Party on an acting basis, but did not then go on to be elected leader in their own right - namelyGeorge Brown on the death ofHugh Gaitskell in 1963,Margaret Beckett on the death ofJohn Smith in 1994 andHarriet Harman on the resignation ofGordon Brown in 2010 andEd Miliband in 2015. I know that they are often considered acting leaders, but I am struck by the fact that the Harriet Harman article states in relation to her taking over on Brown's resignation that "Although she was informally described in the media as 'Acting' Leader, she was fully Leader by the terms of the party's constitution, albeit on a temporary basis, as was the case with Margaret Beckett in 1994". Indeed I have seen elsewhere that ion the event of their being no Labour Party leader the deputy becomes leader automatically until a new ballot can be held. Thus, I wonder if the template needs to be modified to include them as leaders, possibly with something to indicate it was on a pro tem basis?Dunarc (talk)18:55, 17 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

SDP Breakaway parties

[edit]

Would it be worth adding a section for historic breakaway parties like theSDP, theNational Labour Party, theNational Democratic and Labour Party and the short livedDemocratic Party? The Lib Dem template has a similar section.Dunarc (talk)21:51, 19 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Leaders of the EPLP

Deputy Leader should be in capitals and looks consistant86.164.165.249 (talk)21:42, 25 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: All instances of "Deputy Leader" within this template are capitalized. If you are talking about the article titles, you will have to take that up atWikipedia:Move requests.Living Concrete (talk)00:53, 26 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Done Based on your edits, I'm assuming you meant that you wanted the wikilink pointing to a redirect to be fixed. I've made that change.Living Concrete (talk)01:00, 26 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Socialist societies

[edit]

Should theSocialist societies have a separate section in the listing of "Associated Organisations"? I wasn't sure where to listLabour Women's Network, which has a new article. (I made a redirect from it to the list of Socialist socs, after seeing it mentioned byLizzi Collinge in her maiden speech, and another editor has since created the article). I added it under "Factional groups" but perhaps it's a "Sectional group"? As a party outsider it looks as if the "Socialist societies" have a recognised status which ought perhaps to give them a separate listing in the template (beyond the link to their general article)?PamD07:18, 3 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Jackie Baillie in leader of Scottish Labour

[edit]

Jackie Baillie was acting leader of the Scottish Labour Party twice, but was only in the template once. HoweverHarriet Harman is included for both her spells as interim leader of the Labour Party. Given this I have added another entry for Jackie Baillie in the order she should come for Scottish Labour leader.Dunarc (talk)22:57, 31 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
