Sourcing requirements

[edit]

There have been several cases of candidates being added without a source on theDraft:2024 United States presidential election page. There are also cases ofMeghan, Duchess of Sussex being removed despite having two sources. What should the sourcing criterion be? --Numberguy6 (talk)00:27, 17 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I see no reason to change the consensus from 2016 that was used in 2020, until we have the massive all encompassing RFC after the 2020 election.Przemysl15 (talk)19:07, 17 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
What was the 2016 consensus? Whatever it was, it could not have included adding candidates with no sources or removing candidates with multiple sources. --Numberguy6 (talk)22:12, 17 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Also, there is no "proof" that any of these candidateswill run, only that theycould run. That is why Meghan Markle is included. --Numberguy6 (talk)01:55, 18 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
"Consensus on the criteria for a potential candidate to be included in the article:
The "Publicly expressed interest" section requires only one source from the last six months where the individual is quoted as being interested in running in 2020. Social media posts do not count as public expressions of interest.
The "Potential candidates" section requires at least two sources speculating that an individual may run or where an individual talks about the 2020 election from any point after the 2016 election (since November 9, 2016). The sources must not be a list of several potential candidates nor a persuasive article about why a candidate should run.
The "Declined candidates" section requires at least two sources from any point after the 2016 election (since November 9, 2016). One source must be speculative in the same vein as the "Potential candidates" section, while the second must be a quoted denial from the individual in question."Przemysl15 (talk)02:32, 20 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Joe Kennedy

[edit]

the references were prior to his loss in the primary. So I removed him.Arglebargle79 (talk)15:31, 23 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Andrew Yang

[edit]

Yang should be listed with the otherIndependent candidates, only under the sub-section "potential". Until hisaction committee become a registered political party.GoodDay (talk)19:39, 17 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Why? This template is supposed to match the article. ― Tartan357 Talk19:46, 17 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Unbolding additional party labels

[edit]

In the2020 template I noticed the additional party labels aren't bolded, but I can't figure out how to do that here. If anyone could fix that it'd be greatly appreciated!DukeOfDelTaco (talk)22:19, 10 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Democratic "Withdrew after primaries"

[edit]

I don't think we need to include joke candidates in this section, such as Joe Exotic and Paperboy Prince. Any objection to removing them on the grounds that including them is giving themWP:UNDUE weight?BilledMammal (talk)18:54, 21 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I've gone andWP:BOLDLY removed them.BilledMammal (talk)19:21, 21 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
