Usage

Use this rcat template onmainspace redirects only.

This redirect category (rcat) template populates subcategories ofCategory:Redirects from sort names depending on itssortkeys (see below), and it also populatesCategory:Printworthy redirects by default. In 2003, efforts were begun to support theWikimedia Foundation's goal of increasing access and availability ofWikipedia articles inprinted versions. Redirects from sort names are usually suitable for a printed version. In other words they areprintworthy.See below for what to do for those few redirects that are not suitable for a printed version.

Please do not alter the printworthy settings of this rcat without first notifying theVersion 1.0 Editorial Team, who are responsible for any and all materials, including redirects, that go into a printed version ofWikipedia.

Template{{Rcat shell}} is an alias for theRedirect category shell template, which may be used to add as many appropriate rcats as needed, usually from one to seven, along with their parameters, to a redirect. Use this rcat to tag all mainspace redirects that are used to sort people bysurname (family name)first, followed by theirgiven name, such as "Smith, John". Another use is to sortbands by name first, followed by the leadinggrammatical article, such asBeatles, TheBeatles, TheThe Beatles.
This rcat tags redirects with a subcategory ofCategory:Redirects from modifications, so template{{R from modification}} shouldnot be used with this rcat.

Parameters

As shown above, twocategory sortkeys should be added whenever this rcat tags a redirect. The first parameter's sortkey is thefirst letter of the redirect title. For example, on the redirectRoberts, JuliaRoberts, Julia the first sortkey is "R" (sortkeys are always inuppercase capital letters, please). The second parameter's sortkey is the first letter of the target article, in this caseJulia Roberts, so the second sortkey is "J". Please remember to include these sortkeys. This example would appear as follows:

Printability

Use parameter|printworthy=no to populateCategory:Unprintworthy redirects. Otherwise these redirects will be sorted as printworthy (the default).
