Temenos (Greek:Τέμενος) is a former municipality in theHeraklion Regional Unit,Crete,Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipalityHeraklion, of which it is a municipal unit.[2] The municipal unit has an area of 56.608 km2.[3] Population 3,421 (2021). The seat of the municipality was inProfitis Ilias.
The province of Temenos (Greek:Επαρχία Τεμένους) was one of theprovinces of the Heraklion Prefecture. Its territory corresponded with that of the current municipality Heraklion (except the municipal unitGorgolainis and a few other villages) and the municipal unitArchanes.[4] It was abolished in 2006.
