Telandrus orTelandros (Ancient Greek:Τήλανδρος), also known as Telandros akre (Ancient Greek:Τηλανδρία ἄκρα)[1] was a town onTelandria island inancient Caria.[2] It was apolis (city-state), and a member of theDelian League since it appears in tribute records ofAthens between the years 453/2 and 433/2 BCE.[3]
Pliny the Elder mentions Telandria (modern Tersane) as an island from which the population had disappeared.[4] However,Quintus Smyrnaeus notes Telandrus as the name of a valley near theGlaucus River, so called because it was the place where tradition indicated that the mythicalGlaucus of Lycia (ofTrojan War fame) was buried.[5] It has been suggested that the site may be at Tersane orAvthoki or atNif Köy in the interior of Caria.[3]
