Telpay Incorporated is the largest independentelectronic payment company inCanada, processing over $19.5 billion in 2020.[2]
The company'sflagship product isTelpay for Business, anelectronic payment software for businesses which eliminates the need forcheques.
Telpay was founded in 1985 as aresearch-and-development division ofComcheq Services, apayroll company started byBill Loewen in 1968.[3][4] In March 1985, the first reports of telephone-generated bill payments were delivered toManitoba Hydro andManitoba Telephone System.[3]
In 1992, Loewen sold Comcheq toCIBC, but retained control of the Telpay division, thereby establishing Telpay Incorporated, with Loewen as chair.[3]
Telpay headquarters is located indowntown Winnipeg, in aheritage building built in 1909 by theCanada Permanent Trust Company.[4] The current President is Kevin Sokolowski.[5]
