
Atechnical room[1] orequipment room is a room where technicalequipment has been installed, for example for controlling a building'sclimate,electricity,water andwastewater.[2] The equipment can includeelectric panels,central heating,heat network, machinery forventilation systems,air conditioning, various types ofpumps andboilers,[3] as well astelecommunications equipment. It can serve one or more housing units or buildings.
Technical rooms are very important for the stable operation of buildings, and should be designed so that one has plenty of space to work on the technical equipment during repairs and maintenance.[4] In homes, technical rooms may not satisfy thebuilding code standards set fortraditional living spaces, and hence itsfloor area may not be classified as suited for permanent residence.[citation needed]
