Taslim Ahmed was the lastInspector General of Police ofEast Pakistan and the first Home Secretary of Bangladesh under PresidentSheikh Mujibur Rahman.[1][2]
Ahmed was the appointed Inspector General of Police of East Pakistan on 22 January 1970.[3][4] He expressed support forSheikh Mujibur Rahman after Mujib won the1970 Pakistani general election.[5] He supported the Bengali people during theNon-cooperation movement (1971).[6] He served till 17 May 1971.[3] Mozaffar Ahmed Chowdhury, a non-Bengali police officer, replaced him.[6] He was on a grey list and transferred to West Pakistan.[7]
Ahmed was appointed Secretary of theMinistry of Home Affairs after the Independence of Bangladesh in 1971.[8] His appointment was controversial as he allegedly supported Pakistan during theBangladesh Liberation War.[8]
Ahmed died on 29 February 2012 in Ottawa, Canada.[4]
