Lee Chae-won (Korean: 이채원; born September 27, 2002), also known asTarzzan, is a South Korean model, rapper, and dancer. He first competed as a professional dancer at the Seoul International Dance Competition in 2017 and later became the first Korean male dancer to win consecutive gold medals at the 49th and 50th Dong‑A International Contemporary Dance Competition in 2019 and 2020. He debuted as a model at the 2022 F/WSeoul Fashion Week and is currently active as a member ofAllDay Project, aco-ed group underThe Black Label.
Lee Chae-won was born on September 27, 2002,[1] inUlsan, South Korea.[2] He briefly attended elementary school inArizona, United States; its only Asian student.[3][4] Following his return to South Korea, he trained as atriathlete before switching tocontemporary dance at the suggestion of his cousin, a ballerina.[5] He later attendedBusan Arts High School [ko], majoring inmodern dance,[6] and studied contemporary dance at theKorea National University of Arts.[7]
Lee first competed at the 14th Seoul International Dance Competition in 2017, placing first at age 13–14 (Korean age).[6] He continued to gain recognition in national competitions, winning first place at the 2018 Korea International Contemporary Dance Competition and again at the 17th Seoul International Dance Competition.[6][8] He became the first Korean male dancer to win gold medals for two consecutive years at the 49th and 50th Dong-A International Contemporary Dance Competition in 2019 and 2020;[9][6] a prestigious distinction that also grants automatic admission to theKorea National University of Arts.[4] He later competed internationally in thecontemporary dance category at the 2021 Tanz Olympia Asia Grand Prix[10] and the 2022 Internationales Tanz Festival inBerlin,[11] where he was hailed as its gold medalists.
In 2022, Lee received a gold medal at theValentina Kozlova International Ballet Competition (VKIBC) inNew York.[12] He was subsequently invited by theMartha Graham School to participate in a three-week winter intensive course and by theNew York Theatre Ballet for its choreography workshop.[13] He also received a scholarship from theAlvin Ailey School,[14] an opportunity that aligned with his goal of becoming the first Korean dancer to join the Alvin Ailey II Dance Company.[6]
Lee signed with the modeling agencyYG KPlus after being personally scouted by CEO Ko Eun-kyung.[15] He received the offer while assisting a friend with choreography during her participation in a supermodel contest.[15] Following his debut at the 2022 F/WSeoul Fashion Week, he gained early industry attention, including an exclusive magazine pictorial produced shortly after his debut.[16] He became a steady fixture on the Seoul Fashion Week runways and expanded his work internationally through the 2024Milan Fashion Week.[17] His portfolio includes features in magazines such asVogue andGQ,[18][19] as well as campaigns forSamsung,McDonald's,Musinsa [ko],Caribbean Bay, andLG U+.[2] He also attracted interest from several luxury houses, receiving offers fromBottega Veneta,Fendi, andDior.[20]
In 2023, Lee met singer Bryan Chase at a launch party while working as a model. Through Chase, he was introduced toTeddy Park, co-founder ofThe Black Label, to discuss a potential opportunity with the agency.[5] Lee was subsequently scouted and selected for the label’s next prospective act, becoming its second confirmed member afterAnnie Moon.[21] In June 2025, he was introduced as a member ofAllDay Project, aco-ed group under Park's label,[22] and debuted as "Tarzzan" with the single albumFamous on June 23.[23]
Lee's artistic sensibilities reflect influences across dance, fashion, and music. His foundational training was established at Busan Arts High School under the guidance ofcontemporary dancer Ha Jung‑oh.[6] He attributes his interest in fashion to his mother, who studied industrial design,[24] and notes that his early exposure tohip‑hop during childhood in the United States further informed his creative outlook,[25] particularly through artists such asLil Wayne andASAP Rocky.[3]
Lee andCho Yi-hyun becameReebok's official ambassadors for its Vector 93 summer collection.[26]
In 2022, Lee participated in the ‘Eco‑friendly Charity Bazaar,’ where he sold personal items for the event organized by Hope Friends Hunger Relief. The proceeds were donated to Spring B Salon (봄B살롱), a community space operated by the social enterpriseHappy Sharing [ko] to support individuals facing food insecurity.[27]
