Sugar pie is adessert in northernFrench andBelgian cuisine, where it is calledtarte au sucre. It is also popular in Canada.

Various type oftarte au sucre are made. Some are a leavened dough topped withbeet sugar orbrown sugar, others have a crust containing a homogeneous sugar mixture which is similar tocaramel after baking. TheFrench Canadian version of the dessert sometimes usesmaple syrup.[1]

In Canada, the sugar pie is considered a classic dish ofQuébécois cuisine.[2] In 2019, the sugar pie was featured on a Canadianpostage stamp.[3]
