Taonius is a smallgenus ofglass squid. Although it comprises only three recognised species, it has been suggested there may be as many as fivespecies.[2]Taonius borealis is found in the NorthPacific Ocean andTaonius pavo is found in theAtlantic and possibly the south-westernIndian Ocean.[3]
Some teuthologists dispute Voss's synonymy ofBelonella withTaonius.[4][5]
