Tammareddy Krishna Murthy (1920 – 16 September 2013) was an Indian film producer who worked inTelugu cinema. He received theRaghupathi Venkaiah Award from theGovernment of Andhra Pradesh in 2007.[1][2]

Krishna Murthy started his career in the film industry as a production executive for films likePalletooru (1952),Rojulu Marayi (1955). Later, he turned a producer and established his ownproduction company namedRavindra Art Pictures.[2] He produced many notable films likeLakshadhikari (1963),Zamindar (1966),Bangaru Gajulu (1968),Dharma Daata (1970),Doctor Babu (1973).[1][2][3]

Producer and directorTammareddy Bharadwaja is his son.[4][3]

Early life

Tammareddy Krishna Murthy was born in Chinapalaparru village,Mudinepalli inKrishna district,Andhra Pradesh.[1][3] He participated inIndian independence movement in his youth and was jailed.[5] He likedCommunist principles and actively participated in the works of Praja Natya Mandali.[1][5][4]

Career

Krishna Murthy initially worked as a tuition teacher for the children of cinema artists inMadras.[1] Then he entered into films as a production executive and worked on films likePalletooru (1952),Rojulu Marayi (1955). Returning toHyderabad, he worked for many successful films made bySarathi Studios.[1]

Later, he started his own production house titledRavindra Art Pictures and madeLakshadhikari (1963) withN. T. Rama Rao in the lead role as his first production.[5] It was a big success. He madeZamindar (1966) withAkkineni Nageswara Rao and many other films likeBangaru Gajulu (1968),Dharma Daata (1970),Sisindri Chitttibabu (1971),Dattaputhrudu (1972),Doctor Babu (1973),Chinnanati Kalalu (1975),Amma Nanna (1976),Love Marriage (1978), andIddaru Kodukulu (1982).[5][3][6]

Personal life

Producer and directorTammareddy Bharadwaja, is his son. Tammareddy Lenin Babu, his other son, is also a film director.[4] Krishna Murthy produced many films with Lenin Babu as a director.
