Controversy surrounding death

[edit]

There "was" very clear controversy around his death, and this continues in the minds of his supporters, which should be noted in the introductory paragraph, as most readers do not read the whole article and will gain from just having another few words added to the sentence on his death - as there is no shortage of authoritative sources on the fact that there was controversy, and that sheds light on current events:https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/26707208/https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/26856052/https://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-24838061https://www.theguardian.com/world/2013/nov/06/yasser-arafat-poisoned-polonium-tests-scientistshttps://www.reuters.com/article/us-palestinians-arafat-idUSBRE9A50S520131106https://abcnews.go.com/International/yasser-arafat-poisoned-forensics-report/story?id=20806963https://www.nbcnews.com/id/wbna53482635https://www.chemistryworld.com/news/arafat-exhumed-in-poisoning-probe/5672.articleDagelf (talk)21:49, 8 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I’m late to this but also it claims that the wife of Arafat refused the autopsy based on religious beliefs, however in the interview with her on “Killing Arafat” on Al Jazeera she claims that she was never approached or asked about an autopsy by anyone nor did she ever refuse one to anyone. The citation wikipedia used is for a New York Times article from November 2005 a little less than a year after his death. The Al Jazeera documentary “Killing Arafat” was released November 2013.2600:1002:B1E8:3A51:FCDB:E614:AA50:F521 (talk)14:38, 1 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Add Awards section, Nobel Peace Prize 1994

[edit]

An Awards section should be added in the biographic table, to indicate the 1994 Nobel Peace Prize received jointly with Peres (whose page indeed contains this section in the biographic table) and Rabin.82.0.79.104 (talk)11:59, 27 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Edit request {Arafat was born to Palestinian parents in Cairo, Egypt} cannot be so, there was no Palestine in 1929 or previously. Was Ottoman Empire when the parents were born, assuming born outside Egypt.

[edit]

{{cannot be so, there was no Palestine in 1929 or previously.

Was Ottoman Empire when the parents were born, assuming born outside Egypt. Either Ottoman Turks or Arabs from elsewhere, but not Palestine which as yet is not a State. So called British Mandate of 'Palestine' (an anglicised Latin name) only existed from 1920.

Thus the post in Wikipaedia is wrong, geographically, historically and politically.

It should be changed to reflect the contemporaneous reality.— Precedingunsigned comment added byPeteslez (talkcontribs)14:35, 28 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Not done Palestinian is the word used overwhelmingly by sources. Also it's nothing to do with states.Zerotalk09:09, 20 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

He was NOT a Palestinian. He was born in Cairo.

There is no contradiction in being a Cairo-born Palestinian, any more than there is in being a Russian-born Israeli.Zerotalk13:44, 25 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

A "Controversies/criticism" section should be added to this article.

[edit]

BothPalestinians andIsraelis have things to criticize him for. Whether it's one side that sees him as an incompetent leader or the other that calls him a terrorist, I think it's safe to say some of his actions and statements attracted enough criticism to deserve their own section.Super Idol the xuan ron (talk)16:09, 17 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
