This used to be a disambiguation, now it's a stubby non-article. Both sections have their own articles, so what are we trying to do here?Richard001 (talk)11:30, 19 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

those are all the same thing, just used in different scenariosOwen214 (talk)12:58, 24 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
These bowls with three legs might have the same name (even this point is dubious), but they are completely different objects - their purpose is totally unrelated to a surveying tripod and therefore I recommend deleting it or at the very least, moving it to some other page.Owen214 (talk)12:58, 24 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The positioning of the three feet away from the vertical centre allows the tripod better leverage for resisting lateral forces. Tripods have the disadvantage of being heavy and bulky although they can be used with large equipment.
Am I the only one who thought tripods main advantages were compactness and portability, and biggest worry is having them fall over?81.165.78.108 (talk)18:49, 28 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Tripod stands are widely used in laboratories to support flasks, beakers etc..
Maybe I'll add a section later...81.165.78.108 (talk)19:04, 28 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

These are a thing too, to allow pro audio speakers with pole holes on the cabinet undersides to stand at a height from the ground.Anamyd (talk)23:14, 16 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
