PhD in what discipline?

[edit]

Greetings:

I am confused as to what field of study Dr Duckworth's doctoral degree is in.

  • In the lede, it says : "She completed a PhD in human services"
  • Then under Military Service :"working toward a Ph.D. in political science at Northern Illinois University, with research interests in the political economy and public health of southeast Asia"
  • The Information Box merely says :"Northern Illinois University Capella University (PhD)"
  • Her Senate website states :"began pursuing a Ph.D. in Political Science at Northern Illinois University" [but does not say if she finished]

Did she finish? Does anyone know what her doctorate is in? Let's give her credit for the academic hard work she put in.

Thank you for your help,Wordreader (talk)15:37, 11 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure what your question is but did you look at the education section, I think the article says, she got the PhD from Capella U. in Human Services (dissertation:Exploring Illinois physicians' experience using electronic medical records (EMR) via the UTAUT model), and this was more than a decade and a half after her time at Northern Illinois, where she began a PhD program but was interrupted by her call up for deployment to Iraq (as part of the National Guard), and suffered grievous injuries, no doubt leading to further delays, and she also did several other things in the meantime, like getting elected to congress.Alanscottwalker (talk)00:40, 13 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, @Alanscottwalker:
I see what's confused you - I left out the statement from Early life and education. Sorry. As you noted, it says:She completed a PhD in human services at Capella University School of Public Service Leadership.
As you see from my bulleted list and from the article itself, there are different degree names given. The Education section gives a different degree than the Lede section and the Military Service section. The info box doesn't help and her Congressional website just says she started her PhD, but doesn't say she finished it.
So, which is it -PhD in human services orPhD in political science?
Thank you for your interest,Wordreader (talk)18:55, 16 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see anywhere in the article where it says or even suggests she got a PhD in political science, nothing in your list says that either. Both say she began one which was interrupted and she much later finished at another school and in another, if related, social science discipline. --Alanscottwalker (talk)22:09, 16 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
