The tabloid belonged toAxel Springer.
It seems that Springer Verlag which became Springer Science+Business Media started from Julius Springer in 1842, while Axel Springer Verlag started from Axel Springer born in 1912. The same name Springer is just a coincidence.
Springer Verlag: In 1842, on his 25th birthday,Julius Springer opened a bookstore in Berlin. This was followed not long afterwards by the foundation of the Springer publishing house (Verlag Julius Springer). At first it mainly published political and philosophical works after 1848.
Axel Springer: (b. May 2, 1912 in Hamburg-Altona - d. September 22, 1985 in West Berlin), was a German journalist and the founder and owner of the Axel Springer AG publishing company. ...Springer's career started with the foundation of Axel Springer GmbH in Hamburg in 1947.
i'll add this briefly to the disambiguation statements.Boud11:30, 13 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

After all,Wikimedia Foundation will sooner or later get to the stage of being one of the world's biggest media networks, but with a totally different method of content control than the traditional media organisations :).Boud15:49, 16 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The famous scholarly "Verlag Julius Springer" of Heidelberg, originally founded in Berlin 1842, publishes scientific books and scholarly journals only. It was in Julius Springer's journal "Annalen der Physik" that Einstein published his relativity theory.
It has absolutely nothing whatever to do with the media empire founded in 1947 by a Mr. Axel Springer (no relation!), called "Axel Springer AG", which publishes the Hamburg newspaper "Die Welt" and the scandal tabloid "Bild", and which criticized the student protests. In his lifetime, he frequently made the headlines for various anti-communist statements, and for moving his media empire from Hamburg demonmstratively into a new tower located just a few feet from the Berlin Wall.
May I suggest that you use the proper names of the 2 corporations,"Julius Springer" and "Axel Springer", rather than the ambiguous "Springer Verlag" which has over the years been used by both firms, and could apply to either of them.Dunnhaupt19:13, 5 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It's been eight years since a merge was last proposed and in that timeHumana Press has grown increasingly outdated and provides little evidence to support the idea that the imprint is notable in its own right.
