Ownership

[edit]

Who owns the Sci-Fi Channel in the UK. it is my understanding from looking at the website that it is owned byNBC Universal via a subsidery calledSci Fi Channels Europe LLC (see the contact email addresseshere andhere – all at the nbcuni.com domain and the copyright notice at the bottom of the www.scifiuk.com website).

User:Mistress Selina Kyle has edited the infobox to say that is independent and I seem to recall hearing thatVivendi Universal had sold it (way before the merger) but if so - what is with the email addys, can anyone give more authoritive information? –MrWeebleTalkBrit tv11:59, 19 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

If this helps:

$ whois scifiuk.com Organization: Universal Studios Sally Henley 5-7 Mandeville Place London, W1M5LB GB Phone: +44 20 7535 3562 Email: sally.henley@unistudios.com$ whois nbcuni.comRegistrant:General Electric Company 1 Independence Way Princeton, NJ 08540 US

I've also just left some feedback via their website asking them who owns the channel and giving them a link to this article. -Motor (talk)13:01, 19 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Don't hold your breath though:

"Dear Motor,

Thanks for your query. We really appreciate your comments, however due to demand we will endeavour to respond within 2 weeks. In the meantime keep watching the channel and using the website.

Many thanks

SCI FI"-Motor (talk)13:26, 19 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Surely the line about it being independant isn't true anymore? On the "about" page it clearly says that the parent company isNBC Universal. You can also access the SciFi UK site viahttp://www.uk.scifi.com/ and even the logo has been changed to match the US version (old logo) --Mercifull10:41, 9 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Feedback from the UK SciFi channel

[edit]

Hi there!

Thank you for your recent message.

SCI FI UK is the sister company of SCI FI US.SCI FI UK is owned by Universal.

Hope that helps.

Kind Regards Duty Officer SCI FI UK

-Motor (talk)16:02, 20 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Reply and ask them if that means they are owned byNBC Universal (rather thanVivendi Universal please?
Ask them what "sister company" means in this context; if they are in fact part of the same company/the same company completely or not - I have noticed that a programmes on the US one aren't on in the UK one (a friend was telling me to go watch ghost hunters, but it's not on here..) ..
Thanks for looking into this :) --Mistress Selina Kyle16:54, 20 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Sci Fi Channel (United Kingdom) vs. Sci Fi channel (United Kingdom)

[edit]

I don't actually have the channel myself, but shouldn't channel be capitalised?DrWho4208:25, 17 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No, because the channel's just called Sci Fi...and looking at the logo for the American channel, that seems to be just called Sci Fi too. In fact, I'd say all Sci Fi channel articles need the 'channel' removed, as the word seems to have been dropped from the name worldwide in about 1998ish.BillyH23:19, 17 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hello. I work for SCI FI, and that's how we spell it. All capitals, no hyphenation, just the same as all the other SCI FI channels across the world. We sometimes use SCI FI Channel, SCI FI (UK) or similar to distinguish ourselves where there might be confusion.

Centralized TV Episode Discussion

[edit]

Over the past months, TV episodes have been redirected by (to name a couple) TTN, Eusebeus and others. No centralized discussion has taken place, so I'm asking everyone who has been involved in this issue to voice their opinions here in this centralized spot, be they pro or anti. Discussion is here[1]. Even if you have not, other opinions are needed because this issue is affecting all TV episodes in Wikipedia. --Maniwar (talk)02:05, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:SciFi channel.svg

[edit]

Image:SciFi channel.svg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used underfair use but there is noexplanation or rationale as to why its use inthis Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to theboilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent withfair use.

Please go tothe image description page and edit it to include afair use rationale. Using one of the templates atWikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described oncriteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at theMedia copyright questions page. Thank you.
