Salamiyah was not a center of Christianity, it was not even considered a city by George of Cyprus or Hierocles in the 6th century. Salamias was a city that had an exempt bishopric within the Antioch patriarchy. It was located in the Roman province ofSiria I, near Antioch, in a currently unlocated location. The location of the current city of Salamiyah corresponds to the ancient Roman province ofPhoenicia Libanesia. See the works of Le Quien, Vailhé, Honigmann and Devreesse.
