Similar toRail transport in Paraguay - I put together what I could, but it is by far not enough.

Ideas for enhancement:

  • Rail links with Costa Rica. In a 2002 Let's Go Central America guide, there are outdated maps showing railroads in SW Chiriquí stretching to neighbouring Costa Rica regions. When traveling along the Interamerican Highway in December 2005, I noticed abandoned trackbeds (no bridges any more, tracks - if any at all - then only in vertical position as telephone poles) in Costa Rica at the places indicated in the guide. Can anybody investigate this further?
  • In Boquete, on the main square, there is a passenger car of Ferrocarril de Chiriquí on display. Unfortunately, I lost my camera after taking this picture - perhaps someone else can snap it and publish in Wikipedia!
  • Panama Canal uses mules - engines on broad-gauge tracks - for drawing boats within locks (e.g., in Gatún). Before the change of gauge, their tracks used to be connected with the main Panama Railway. We may mention them here, as well.
  • Ownership and name changes of Ferrocarril de Chiriquí (to Chiriquí Land and back).
