Self-published?

[edit]

Would be correct to describe hismagnum opus, his 1979 bookAn Organic Basis for Neuroses and Educational Difficulties: A new look at the Minimal Brain Dysfunction syndrome co-written with David Mcglown as self-published? The publisher of that book was Insight Publications of Chester, England, which happens to be the publishing arm of the Institute for Neuro-Physiological Psychology based in Chester, whose founder and director-general was one Peter Huxley-Blythe. Saying the book was published makes it sound like the book went through the normal vetting process when somebody publishes a book claiming some sort of medical discovery, which was certainly not the case here. --A.S. There are various sections of misinformation in this article, particularly in relation to the INPP.
The article relies heavily on two sources: 1. Daily Telegraph obituary. 2. An internet article (author un-named) on which a later article in Discovery relied.
1. Curtis Cripe was never the INPP representative for INPP in the USA.
2. Some of the people mentioned in the article were speakers at an open conference discussing issues of the time. They were not a part of INPP.
3. INPP does not claim to "cure" learning disabilities. It provides a method of assessing signs of immaturity in the functioning of the central nervous system and uses physical exercises to improve the functioning of the same.
4. The article on which Professor Dorothy Bishop commented was featured in the Daily Telegraph based on the content of a new book which explored the potential influence of the environment, including parenting on child development. The article was not written by the author of the book.
5. Since 2000 INPP and others have continued to carry our research based on its methods. A full list of research published in peer reviewed journals can be found on the INPP website.
6. INPP as a body has no ideological links to any political, religious or social group, including that of its original founder.86.176.174.238 (talk)09:29, 1 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
