The article contains the phrase:
"the nucleus vowel is the only required part of a licit consonant in Chinese varieties."
with a reference to a source. Since I cannot consult the source but seriously doubt that "consonant" is the intended word here (I am not aware that a vowel can be part of a consonant), I wonder if anyone can confirm that the word "syllable" is intended, or is the correct word.Redav (talk)16:17, 10 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
As written here in thePOJ#Han-Romanization mixed script section, "the termHàn-lô does not describe one specific system, but covers any kind of writing in Southern Min which features both Chinese characters and romanization."
I propose (a) copying the explanation of Han-lo here to theWritten Hokkien#Chinese characters section as a new heading/subheading, and
(b) changing theHàn-lô redirect to that new section there.
In my opinion, this is more inclusive of the topic and reflects the history and future of different authors using different romanization schemes.cboss2 (talk)04:14, 20 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
