Chief of Naval Staff section trimmed

[edit]

I have moved this paragraph from the article to here because it is poorly sourced, portions are factually incorrect, and portions are of questionable relevance in a biographical encyclopedia entry:

After assuming the command, he kept the Navy out of politics and focused on upgrading the Navy and keeping the Navy on the professionalism.: unknown [1][self-published source?] On 15 December 1977, Admiral Shariff established thenaval air stationMehran Naval Air Base, wherePAF'sNo. 25 SquadronNight Strike Eagles, anAggressor squadron of PAF, Admiral M. Shariff presented the Squadron Colour to the No. 25 Squadron Night Strike Eagles.[2]

The first source cited, Anwar, is an autobiography fromself-publishing companyAuthorHouse. The second source cited, paffalcons.com, appears to be a fan site. It is not an official government source; the domain is registered to a private individual. Authorship is unclear. There is no indication of any journalistic or academic credentials. The site's disclaimer says "The views expressed in the research & analysis articles are the sole responsibility of the authors and do not necessarily reflect those of the PAFFalcons.com". In short, the website exhibits none of the characteristics of areliable source.

According to the website of the Pakistan Navy, "The first Naval Air Station, PNS MEHRAN, was commissioned on 26 September 1975".[1] "PNS MERHAN was commissioned by the Vice Chief of Naval Staff Rear Admiral L N Mungavan."[2] This contradicts the claim that Shariff established it on 15 December 1977.

In peacetime, senior officers perform numerous ceremonial duties. Presenting the squadron color may have been a highlight of that squadron's history (although I'm skeptical), but it isn't a major episode in Sharif's life, and doesn't belong in an encyclopedia-level summary of it.
