WouldGareth Edwards'Godzilla (2014) be considered a minimalist Godzilla film? Gareth did say thatprior to CGI being used in film, you didn't always get to see the monsters all the time like inJawsorAlien, which invoked a sense of mystery and intrigue, and his goal withGodzilla was to harken back to that kind of film making.KasaibouF29 (talk)15:40, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think most people would agree with the directors included in the definition section being "minimalist" but if we use that as a baseline then how in the world do things like 2001: A Space Odyssey, Playtime, Suspiria, Taxi Driver, Plan 9 from Outer Space, and Invasion of the Body Snatchers count? Those films are polar opposites in terms of style and presentation, if anything some of them are "maximalist" films. The definition for a "minimalist film" needs to be stricter than "this film didn't have a very big budget" or "this film didn't have a lot of dialogue" because as is the examples are just likely to leave the reader confused.97.113.178.235 (talk)00:17, 14 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
