The standard "LGBTQ" version of the term should be used consistently across Wikipedia to avoid confusion. It is the sole variant used by reputable media outlets such as The New York Times. A brief statement such as “Many variants of the initialism are used” is sufficient. There is no need to list six different variants in the first sentence of the article. This kind of minimalism and consistency strengthens the term.Midnightfalafel (talk)21:04, 29 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
The current lead sentence has too many alternatives, but zero is too few. PerMOS:ALTNAME,If there are three or more alternative names, they should not be included in the first sentence as this creates clutter. Instead, the names may be footnoted, or moved elsewhere in the article such as in a "Names" or "Etymology" section. I thinkLGBTQ people andLGBTQ (term) get the balance right, listing one alternative (LGBTQIA), which exemplifies a broader scope, so is worth mentioning in the lead.--Trystan (talk)02:59, 30 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Would it be possible to add a section for LGBTQ allies? It would describe the conduct of good allies and what one can do to be a better ally. Also, I know there has been some talk about terms, and I was wondering if adding a "terms section" might be possible as well?Walvarez2 (talk)03:02, 3 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
