inclusion of "Kobe" in legacy?

[edit]

I could have totally missed this in the article, but it doesn't seem to mention how it was a phenomenon for quite some time (before his passing and for a while after) for people to say "Kobe!" after throwing something (shooting hoops, playing virtual sports, or even throwing a piece of paper into the trash). Should this be included in his legacy? Sources below :)

Seems reasonable, and those are reliable publications. Is there specific text you propose to be added? Alternatively, consider creating an account, drafting up content in a sandbox, and after ten edits and four days you'd be eligible to directly edit this article.Left guide (talk)05:33, 8 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Kobe Bryant was not born in Philadelphia

[edit]

This is a common misconception, he was born at the Lankenau Medical Hospital in Penn Wynne.~2025-31632-00 (talk)18:56, 16 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Apparently back when Bryant was born in 1978, Lankenau Hospital was still part of Philadelphia. See the following quote:Bryant was born in Lankenau Hospital. Back in 1978, the hospital was officially located in Philadelphia. Now, Lankenau’s address is Wynnewood.GOAT Bones231012 (talk)19:33, 16 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Not done for now: please establish aconsensus for this alterationbefore posting an edit request. The current photo is fine to me, this one is probably worse given the facial expression, lower angle, and no action. See above, there was a discussion (albeit a year and a bit ago now) regarding the photo to use.Umby 🌕🐶(talk)05:29, 14 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Proposal to re-structure Off the court section

[edit]

Current structure:

  • Off the court
    • Personal life
    • Endorsements
    • Music
    • Film and television
    • Philanthropy
    • Business ventures
    • Books

Proposed structure:

  • Personal life
  • Activism
    • Philanthropy
    • Others
  • Public figure
    • Endorsements
    • Music
    • Film and television
    • Business ventures
    • Books

The proposed structure is inspired by theLeBron James article. I also want to add this paragraph to Activism section:

Bryant was an active and outspoken advocate againstpolice violence. After thedeath of Eric Garner in 2014, he wore an "I Can't Breathe" shirt during warm-up. He also stood in solidarity with the family ofTrayvon Martin, appearing at a Los Angeles protest alongsideNipsey Hussle. He later hosted screenings ofJust Mercy, advocating for justice and raise awareness about wrongful convictions. At the same time, he donated to funds for the families of police officers killed in the line of duty.[1]Labratscientist (talk)10:25, 17 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Are there other/better sources covering this material? My initial thought is that a single newspaper article alone may not beWP:DUE for introducing a new perspective. FWIW, there's apeer-reviewed academic journal article covering the cross-section of LeBron and activism; does similar coverage exist for Kobe?Left guide (talk)10:53, 17 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I found some more sources:
Bryant was an active and outspoken advocate againstpolice violence. After thedeath of Eric Garner in 2014, he wore an "I Can't Breathe" shirt during warm-up.[2] He also stood in solidarity with the family ofTrayvon Martin, appearing at an one-year aniversary protest inCrenshaw, Los Angeles.[3] He later hosted screenings ofJust Mercy, speaking out against the injustice of wrongful convictions.[4] At the same time, he donated to funds for the families of police officers killed in the line of duty.[5]
Surprisingly, H. Bryant (Howard Bryant; author; unrelated to Kobe), who was cited bythe journal article you mentioned, was quoted heavily inthis article about how Kobe represents the "transition from Michael Jordan to LeBron James".Labratscientist (talk)12:14, 17 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
