[edit]

You may want to adjust upwards the % of Muslims in Japan as the total population of Japan has fallen by 2 million…— Precedingunsigned comment added by240F:CA:2CE5:1:9034:BDA9:316C:DAAD (talk)06:57, 24 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The number of Muslims in Iran and the percentage is incorrect (in the table under the section "Countries"), even according to the source cited in its row. The percentage of Muslims in Iran is 98-99% (according to the cited source and other sources), but the number written is 50%, which is blatantly incorrect.192.76.8.86 (talk)02:02, 21 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Already done - someone had randomly changed numbers from the table. Undone now.ObserveOwl 🎄 (talk)02:12, 21 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Iran religious demographics incorrect

[edit]

Islam page says Iran is 60% Muslim; the citation (cia Factbook) and other sources indicate the percentage is much higher, well over 90%. I am not an editor but someone should change it66.30.194.52 (talk)17:11, 5 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Misleading World Muslim population by percentage map

[edit]

The map accompanying the article, sourced fromhttps://www.pewforum.org/2012/12/18/table-religious-composition-by-country-in-percentages/, is at best somewhat lacking in clarity and at worst misleading.

They use a political map of the world and shade each country according to the national average % Muslim population. So the map probably lives up to its title but it loses important geographical resolution, such as

1) the Uyghurs in Xinjiang province in China, predominantly Sunnihttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uyghurs or

2) eastern Indonesia, where Christianity takes over from Islam as the predominant faith, e.g. it's ludicrous to shade West Papua as predominantly Muslim when it's nothttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_Papua_(province)

There may be others like this, e.g. Russia and Kasakstan would be interesting to look at. And other Chinese provinces and India. Anyone have a better map?PillarOfAshok (talk)18:01, 2 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm! I stated this almost 15 years ago on a different article. I'm glad other editors are finally seeing what I've been seeing for over a decade. I cannot agree more. The same thing in many of the West African nations e.g., Gambia, Senegal, Mali, etc. Take Gambia for example. There is a large Christian community there as well as those who practice traditional African religions. However, you wouldn't know based on this article and the main Gambian article (as well as its corresponding religion page). Gambia has never had accurate statistics, the statistical office just provides statistics out of thin air and publish it as fact. Although it is generally accepted that the majority of the population are Muslims (with largely syncretism), the 96% figure is dubious. For years, they have under estimated the grounps that practice Christianity and African spirituality. I'm glad other editors are looking into these statistics.Tamsier (talk)06:44, 3 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The amount for the Netherlands is wrong

[edit]

Netherlands has almost 6% muslims but and the percentage should indeed be 5 or 6 but the total amount of muslims is wrong. It should be near 1 million instead of 370.000~2025-35874-38 (talk)18:02, 23 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
