hec ramsey - paladin? or not?

[edit]

in the articleHave Gun – Will Travel it states:

It is not true that Ramsey at one point says in his younger days as a gunfighter he had worked under the name Paladin. The origin of this myth is that Boone stated in an interview that "Hec Ramsey is Paladin — only fatter." Naturally, he merely meant that the characters had certain similarities: Ramsey was practically buffoonish compared to the erudite Paladin.

However, in this article (Hec Ramsey) it states:

During one episode Hec Ramsey reveals he had worked under the name Paladin, a character played by Richard Boone in Have Gun - Will Travel.

well which one is right, they can't both be true. neither statement cites a reference. in my opinion, the statement in the have gun-will travel article sounds more authoritative, therefore i have removed the above passage from this hec ramsey article. admittedly this is based on my best guess.Herostratus (talk)02:11, 26 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Interesting.
I don't remember any specific connection being made when the series was airing, other than the obvious fact of who the star is.
However a couple of the other Mystery Movie shows had an antecedent, so perhaps this one did as well.

I seem to recall an episode where I believe a character played by Steve Forrest makes some reference to something obviously connected to HGWT and Ramsey says something like, "That was a long time ago and I was someone else." I could be imagining things.JimCubb (talk)01:32, 6 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Don't know if this helps, but in "The Gambler: The Luck Of The Draw, Part 2" (1991), Hey Girl mentions "the late Mr. Paladin", and the year is 1906. So Paladin was dead by 1906. I'm not sure what year Hec Ramsey was set. If Paladin was Hec, why did he change his name? I'm also not sure Hec could have legally used HGWT's character; Hec was Universal, HGWT was CBS. My guess is there's NO connection here.Abbythecat (talk) 22:43, 27 June 2015 (UTC)AbbythecatAbbythecat (talk)22:43, 27 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Its clearly stated in the first episode that its 1901. BTW its also stated several times through the series that Hec Ramsey was a formal marshal working for a hanging judge and followed the judge's orders without question. That is what he refers to when he says he was someone else. As the theme song "Where Did He Come From" states "Hec Ramsey used to shoot first and ask questions later" but at the start of the series he decided he should maybe actually be sure the man he goes after is really guilty. I don't know if they ever established what caused this change (just started the second season) but somewhere along the line he came to believe "the one most important thing, the search for the truth" (to quote the song again).Kewalaka1 (talk)18:09, 29 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hec Ramsey

All the issues with Hec Ramsey and Richard Boone can be resloved by reading his book "Richard Boone A Knight Without Armor in a Savage Land". It can be obtained from Amazon— Precedingunsigned comment added by121.222.126.58 (talk)03:15, 11 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
