Floooding In Durham

[edit]

This is in the article "he National Guard was sent and 200 citizens were evacuated. The schools and many businesses closed during the most dangerous week of flooding, and due to poor weather conditions, relief efforts were considered strenuous". But there is no Canadian national guard, is it referring to possibly Canadian Forces or maybe an American chapter of the National Guard?

-anon

I don't think we'd invite Americans. Probably Canadian Forces.DMighton20:21, 2 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Changed wording to reflect this.Blotto adrift21:43, 28 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The Wood Show

[edit]

Does this still exist? I've been south in Windsor for a few years now, and the last time I was there it was still in town. An unregistered guest erased the wood show aspect but kept the fall fair... any info would be nice.DMighton13:44, 11 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Spruce Ridge Community School

[edit]
  • What year did this happen?
  • Why did it happen?
  • Who initiated the amalgamation of the 2 schools?
  • Is it grades 1-8?
  • Does it still have kindergarden?

Any info on this would be greatly appreciated.DMighton13:44, 11 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sports in Durham

[edit]

I plan to create pages for the Durham Thundercats, the Durham Huskies, the Durham Flyers, and the DMHA. Any important info would be appreciated: Team W-L-T Records would be nice, Team Championship photos, and years of championships... I have some records... but not a lot. I will be downsizing the Sports in Durham section as it becomes easier to outsource the info.DMighton13:56, 11 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

United Church

[edit]

The article states that "due to a federal government law," theUnited Church of Canada was created. The Wikipedia article on the UCC does indeed refer to federal legislation (with a link to the text of the Act on the discussion page), although there's no mention of this on the history portion of the UCC website (http://www.united-church.ca/ucc/history/) or in the RSC 1985. The Act is probably no longer on the books. In any event, this section makes it sound like the government moved in and amalgamated the church when in fact it was negotiated among the interested parties. The legislation was simply a legal matter necessary to create the new church and mentioning the government angle really isn't necessary. Thoughts?Blotto adrift22:14, 28 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know. That was just the way they put it in a History of Durham book published by the Durham Public Library.DMighton03:50, 29 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The UCC site is probably more authoritative in matters pertaining to the wider church. Will change the wording to reflect this. Thx,Blotto adrift15:59, 29 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Durham, 'The base of the Bruce Peninsula'

[edit]

Not sure who came up with this one. Durham, the base of the Bruce Peninsula???? The gates at the top of the south hill in Wiarton On would be the base of the Bruce Peninsula. Wiarton is known as the 'Gateway' town...gateway to the Peninsula. FYI.—Precedingunsigned comment added by142.47.35.6 (talk)13:27, 4 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
