What is the origin of the tradition? When/why did people begin throwing things (albeit small pieces of paper) around as a means of celebration?ParkinThom (talk)14:52, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Someone added the "Italian invention" category. So Italians invented paper confetti? Maybe they made it in pasta machines like Adolf Ehinger? The earliest use of paper confetti I'm aware of is the first ticker-tape parade in 1886, and that was in New York.--87.162.14.192 (talk)15:16, 31 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Clarified with sources. Ticker tape parades were developed independently, so no relation to paper confetti. --Jollyroger (talk)09:35, 16 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Etymology

[edit]

The etymology section contains no etymology. Please remedy this, either by including one, or changing the section.73.190.220.151 (talk)12:51, 26 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Plural can be confettis

[edit]

What is the plural of confetti please. e.g. can it be confettis? "She continued to sit there, uninvolved, next to the path under the avenue of trees, surrounded by confettis of falling leaves."5.150.92.82 (talk)14:21, 20 November 2015 (UTC). GTFO. Confetti are already plural. Singular is confetta.[reply]

Wiktionary has the plural as "confettis" also.https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/confettis - Can this be built into the text? (Article presently has the allowable plural as "confetti", whereas it should also allow "confettis" if Wiktionary is correct.)Colin McLaughlin (talk)10:16, 21 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Environmental Impact

[edit]

Wondering if anyone is interested in adding a section re: environmental impact of confetti.google73.98.30.30 (talk)04:01, 16 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I urge deferral of this otherwise harmless suggestion, until we attain the maturity to describe what I'll trivialize as the themass nouns describing multiple collections of distinct entities problem. (This obligatory-meta-ness paradox may, for us post-Newtonians and thus post-Euclidians, have been hashed out by more disciplined minds, and our modern-philosophy and semantics buffs should IMNSHO be the ones beating their brains out against it: sounds trivial, but 'tain't so.—ex-user:Jerzy173.220.230.26 (talk)02:53, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
