Unencyclopedic

[edit]

This looks to me to be unencyclopedic. It's just a series of definitions used by various countries to determine what qualifies as a city/town for census purposes.Valrith19:23, 29 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You are right. In fact your definition would suffice. I have rolled back my changes.Kmcnamee21:01, 29 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Articles Linking to

[edit]

I have seen a few articles linking to this.Few of them are stubs likePanoorPinarayi etc.

The above was written in 2006, there are quite a few links to this article, now.

Why redirecting?

[edit]

This redirection is utter nonsense. "Census town" is a type of geographical division based on census. This is a nomenclature used only in India. It has a similar meaning like sayMetropolitan Area, Urban Agglomeration etc. The word "census town" has neither the meaning "Census" nor the meaning "town". How the hell can some one redirect this word to any of these. This is like a providing a extremly misleading and senseless information in wikipedia. Its a pity that wikipedia cannot provide accurate information about a particular phrase. I have added the defintion for "census town" earlier. Instead of making it encylopedic just redirecting it to some wrong information is simply foolishness.

Agree with last editor. The term has a distinctive meaning, and the redirect was nonsense. --TheEditrix216:55, 20 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A little help?

[edit]

This is of no great moment -- I'm not anything like an expert in this subject. Perhaps that's why I can't figure out what's going on from the article or the editing history here.

1) I was reading an interesting article, saw the link to "census town", and immediately had more questions than I'd come with. E.g.,

a) Are there other "kinds" of towns in India besides "census towns"?

b) What does it mean to be a census town? Government aid? Political representation? What are the advantages and disadvantages?

c) If one does not live in a census town (or "better"), does that mean one is not counted in the census?

2) Why was the information on Ireland deleted? Was it totally spurious? ("- TheCentral Statistics Office defines a -census town as - :a cluster of fifty or more occupied dwellings, not having a legally defined boundary, in which within a distance of 800 metres there is a nucleus of either thirty occupied houses on both sides of the road or twenty occupied houses on one side of the road.")
