Confused Geography section

[edit]

As written the Geography section makes a difference between the Baraboo Syncline, which is a folded layer of rock 5,000 feet thick, and the Baraboo Ranges, which are the ends of the syncline. It then talks about the Baraboo Hills as a third feature; however, the link for Baraboo Hills redirects to Baraboo Ranges!

Finally, it states that the hills are of glacial origin.

There is a syncline of hard, metamorphic Baraboo quartzite that forms the ranges. The rock here is about 1.6 billion years old and has been transformed by tremendous heat and pressure from sandstone to quartzite. It lies on a layer of rhyolite lava rock.

Then there is a terminal moraine - a glacial deposit of gravels over part of the Baraboo range. The glacial deposits are thick enough to create a dam forming Devil's Lake. The moraine is 79,000 - 10,000 years old. It is not to be confused with the much older rocks below.

Finally, there are several layers of rock younger than the syncline but older than the glacial deposit. Those layers formed in and around the syncline by sedimentary deposition. They turned to rocks such a slate and dolomite and have since partly weathered away. Occasional buttes in the landscape are made of this sedimentary rock.

Will someone please sort out the text so it doesn't contradict itself? And replace aeons with 1.6 billion years?Monado (talk)23:28, 1 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

"Controversy"

[edit]

Stuff happens. Yes, it's wrong. Children shouldn't behave that way. But they always have and always will. This is a non story. Whereas we would cover a city burning to the ground pretty much the week it happens (which I might remind you also happened this week), stupid acts by children not so much. No one will care in 10 years. Hell, no one will care next year which is only 6 weeks away. Edit Request: Sister Cities Of Baraboo

[edit]

Baraboo Sister Cities:

Sharaboo: the theoretical town in the movie Rust, where due to strange pre-trial alternative dispute resolution rules, Alec Baldwin reluctantly shares a Wisconsin New Glarus beer with his arch-rival before murdering them.

Wearaboo: The location of an incident resembling a new version of the emporer’s new clothes, where due to anger over this edit, residents of Baraboo will spray this unclothed editor with beer in the ice cold outdoors; and the editor will after being arrested by vindictive Baraboo Police officers for public indecency while attempting to flee naked, be released from pre-trial confinement and have all charges dropped when former Steven Avery prosecutor-turned defense attorney Kenneth R Krats successfully argues to an impaneled grand jury that the editor was legally clothed at the time of the incident due to the thick covering of beer ice on the body.

Tearaboo: The location in northern Wisconsin where as lore has it, Paul Bunyan’s blue ox babe broke open a bottle of Champaign simply by spitting on it.

Sparaboo: a Hamlet of Waipio Hawaii that was contaminated by a massive leak from the local Paradise Brewing Company’s beer plant.

Wheelchairaboo: The village hosting the particular Culvers Restaurant franchise location where Baron Trump will intern prior to his nomination to replace a disgraced Dr Phillip McGraw as US Surgeon General. Mr Trump will later due to that experience go on to institute a special Surgeon General's Warning on all Wisconsin beer and cheese products.

Karapoo: A particular location in Wisconsin’s iconic Kettle Moraine forest, where the strata is made up of glacial till mainly consisting of Caribou excrement which was transported via glacier from the location where it had been stockedpiled by ancient primates in the Northwest Territories to its current location.

Woah! This is some bullshit!50.220.101.243 (talk)02:54, 19 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I've heard of the Paradise Brewing Company incident but not the other ones. Amazing and thanks!96.241.173.244 (talk)05:05, 1 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I remember learning of the Tearaboo incident way back in high school. Definitely seem like something we should add to the page.~2026-10385-02 (talk)23:38, 15 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Ho-Chunk Nation

[edit]

Greetings. I'm new to Wikipedia. I plan to add a sentence to the demographic section noting the Ho-Chunk population in the Baraboo area, reflecting HCN's historical and continuing presence and in Baraboo's culture and community.RubyLeeHeavensbee (talk)06:30, 27 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
