I think the nameAndrew's Descent is fine, that I would prever to translit.We haveEuropean Square in Kiev article, rather thanYevropeyska Square, whIch is a redirect. I see no good reason I could formulate for that, but it is just better to my taste. If others disagree, let's discuss and vote at some point. Most importantly, though, is developing the articlefast while the clock is ticking for theWP:DYK submission that would look smth like:

TheGood articlenomination forAndriivskyi Descent has failed, for the following reason:

I'm failing this article for GA for now. Before anyone puts a contract out on me, let me say I thought the article was very nice and very close to my standards for GA. I have visited Kiev a couple of times and this brought back fun memories. Anyway... here are my reasons for failing (in no particular order)

1. Mainly I am a bit concerned about the english and I thik it could use another round of edits to reach the "compelling prose" standard. While reading I actually made a few edits along those lines. Two very specific concerns are the sentence "But the stunning relief of Andriyivskyy Descent softened the effect of this plagiarism." and "One of the hills was the place where pre-Christian idols once stood, known as Uzdyhal'nycia'". For the first one, isrelief really the intended word here? Anyways, I just could not understand what was meant. For the second, it is ambiguous whether Uzdyhal'nycia' is the name of the hill or the name of the idols (I'm guessing the hill) and it would be good to have, if that makes any sense, a translation.
2. I don't understand why Viktor Nekrasov's naming of the building stuck. It feels like some info is missing there.
3. Not that I want to turn Wikipedia intoLonely Planet but, given the subject matter, I think the article could still use a few more pictures. I'm assuming that a few of the people involved in the writing live or often go to Kiev. The second and last picture are not very good and I think at least a picture of the Richard Lionheart castle should be included.
4. Last, slightly unfair criticism: it would be preferable to have a few more sources in English. Of course, I understand that given the subject matter this is not so trivial but the russian references are pretty much useless for a vast majority of the readers.

That being said, still a very nice article which should be re-nominated after the next wave of improvements.

I think that this article meets Good Article standards. I don't think the issue about the English has been fully addressed, but I think it has been to a satisfactory degree. I think that the lead image is absolutely stunning and the following ones add considerably. It could probably still use a few more sources. As part of theWikiProject Good Articles, we're doingSweeps to determine if the article should remain aGood article. In reviewing the article, I have found there are several issues that needs to be addressed.

Needs citations:

1. "Recently, a decision was made to close off the descent for 2 years, in order to change the nearby sewer systems." Also, when was recently?
2. The "History", "Mikhail Bulgakov's house", "The One Street Museum", and "Monuments" sections are unsourced.
3. "The house is currently being converted into a hotel." Current as of when?
4. "In 1963, Rastrelli's original plans for the building were found in Vienna, Austria. This made it possible to reconstruct the original images on the building. The plan of restoration was carried out in the 1970s, overlooked by the main architect-restorer, V. Korneyeva."

   • Done.

Other issues:

1. "The street begins on the summit of the Starokyivska Hora (Old Kiev mountain) near the delicate late-baroque St Andrew's Church, which gave the street its current name, and descends to the Podil district were it ends at the Kontraktova Square." What is meant by "delicate" here?
2. The list at the beginning of the attractions section should be converted to prose.
3. "Local legend has it that touching the beetle (seen in higher resolutions of photo on right) while making a wish will see it granted." Where is the image at?

   • Can't find a reliable source for this one (only [http://www.den.lv/index.php?s=c6598ff976e4fd76e765a9f5c18f3707&showtopic=14684&st=15&start=15 a forum). Removed.

4. "And the last of the main monuments is the one dedicated to the famous Ukrainian poet and artist, Taras Shevchenko, located to the right of the monument to Yaroslav the Wise." Sentences shouldn't begin with "and".
5. Severaldabs need to be fixed.
