14 Sept revisions by Louiskk23 to Draft:All the President's Elephants (Film)
Thank you for your input Louiskk23. Having read 3 of her elephant memoirs and also watched this documentary several times, I feel like changing the wording here to say that Sharon Pincott simply had a "close" relationship with the elephants doesn't capture just how close a relationship she actually had with them. In the documentary she actually kisses (more than once) a huge wild adult elephant – not hand-raised, not one in fenced areas. Family groups also come to her when she calls to them. I feel that this is much more than simply having a “close” relationship with these elephants. As this article indicated previously, it has been said by numerous world-wide reviewers that she had one of the most remarkable relationships with elephants anywhere in the world. Hence, I do think it’s fair to say her relationship with the elephants was at least “extremely close”. Re the taking out the comparisons to Dian Fossey and Jane Goodall etc I wonder how necessary this is, since it does help to show why the documentary has been so successful, and what an interesting subject she is – although I’ve made no changes to these edits. Does anyone have any comments/suggestions re these last edits?WikiAdd01 (talk)00:39, 16 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Something extra - I feel that there is other relevant/interesting information that has also now been removed, shortening the article, and the references, substantially.WikiAdd01 (talk)10:34, 16 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
(I'll respond to you here as well, just as I responded to you at the tea house.)
Hello, I hope you are well. Before stating my point, I would like to say that I have nothing against your article or you personally. On the contrary, I found the subject of the documentary very interesting. Although I agree that my editing was drastic, I modified text that I felt was excessive and contained unnecessary praise. as well as being redundant. What I did was try to make the article more neutral so that the format would better comply with Wikipedia guidelines and thus support its approval. If you look, two experienced editors edited your article after this, one of them removed a large part of the article that, in my opinion, was unnecessary and not very neutral. Furthermore, another editor commented that there is no mention of the documentary in two references you added. Similarly, I promise not to edit that draft anymore, but instead to let the more experienced editors do what they think is best.
I would also like to say that I have been suffering what I consider to be “harassment” from the editorCeljski Grad. At first, I made a mistake and the problem was solved on the librarians' board by clarifying the confusion, but since then I can't make any edits without Celjski Grad harassing me. Even when I corrected simple spelling mistakes, he harassed me and wrote to me. When I make edits in my sandbox, he harasses me. When I improve syntax, he writes to me too. Although I agree that the edit to the documentary was drastic, the other edits were simpler. In fact, I had to write the text and modify it in a Word file instead of in my sandbox because I was afraid that the user Celjski Grad would also complain about me editing in my sandbox, so I thought, “If I do it in a separate notepad and then paste my edit without using my sandbox, the user will probably be calmer.” But even that didn't save me from harassment by this user. I had already made my last edits in a Word file, which is why it seemed like I did them “quickly.”Louiskk23 (talk)18:12, 16 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Resubmission of declined Draft:All the President's Elephants (Film)
FOR INFO – My submission Draft:All the President’s Elephants (Film) was declined by Jcgaylor, because it is “not supported by reliable sources” (eg Streaming Services not considered appropriate.) I have since made 4 revisions, deleting all Streaming Services quotes and references (that were mostly used to just show where it has been screened). I have also added some additional Zimbabwe newspaper references (which are still in existence). It is a 2012 documentary – still getting world-wide attention, given ongoing elephant conservation problems in Zimbabwe and the memoirs written by the documentary subject’s elephant work in Zimbabwe which include this documentary filming – and some links can’t be used since they’re no longer available (eg page not found). I then asked for assistance/guidance/comments from some experienced editors, before resubmitting, as suggested by Jcgaylor.…… Was subsequently advised that I need to resubmit in order to get reviews/input, so am resubmitting again – along with the much appreciated work done on the article byUser:Thilio.WikiAdd01 (talk)11:37, 29 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I am just addressing the question/suggestion at the top of myDraft:All the President's Elephants page about possibly having a close relationship with the subject -
Hi, Please let me assure you that I have never met the documentary subject Sharon Pincott. I am an elephant-lover and active in many African elephant social media pages/groups however, including Pincott's www.facebook.com/PresidentialElephantsZim page, her personal www.facebook.com/SharonPincott10 page (although as she writes, this one is not an interactive page). I have read (and re-read) 3 of her 5 published elephant memoirs which all take pride of place on my coffee table! (I have not read her two Zimbabwe self-published books that are listed for her, as they were apparently only available for purchase in Zimbabwe.) I have followed her work, and her many trials and tribulations, in Zimbabwe since she first arrived there in 2001, firstly via email newsletters and then on Facebook. There is also a lot of information on Pincott and her work with the Presidential Elephants of Zimbabwe, her books, and this documentary of her work, when you google. There are also numerous news articles about her, these elephants, her books and documentary online, also easily found by googling. (Unfortunately because it is a 2012 documentary, some google results take me to 'page not found' or similar, limiting some of the references I have been able to use.) Only quite recently I got to view (multiple times now) the All the President's Elephants documentary when it became available for free viewing around the world, and was so moved by it that I felt it deserved a Wikipedia article, just as there is one on her personally. (I also believe that her best-selling memoir books deserve articles too but I have not pursued that at this point.) There are also news articles and posts that Pincott's health is failing and I partially consider this to be my contribution to help to spread awareness, as Pincott often writes that she views as essential, for the elephants' sake. I have spent many days/months researching this article, prior to trying to put it together here, by simply reminding myself of what I have already read about her over the past 20+ years, by referring back to her memoirs, her Facebook pages and news articles written on her. I do admit that she is a hero of mine, and do what I can to help elephants in general from afar. I also have a connection with Zimbabwe, since my grandparents lost their farm there to the land invasions, around the same time as Pincott arrived in Zimbabwe. I hope this helps you understand my connection to her and the elephants.WikiAdd01 (talk)12:07, 30 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I asked this today at the Tearoom, and received this response. I will now delete this notice from the top of the page ----
There is a notice questioning 'close contact' with the subject at the top of this page. As requested, I used the Talk page and answered this question from my own perspective on 30 October, asking if anybody had any further queries. I have had no responses to date. It says that this notice (eventually) needs to be removed manually. Should I - or someone - remove it now? Or should it be left there for more time?
The notice at the top of your draft is indicating that the editor who placed the notice believes you might have aconflict of interest with the subject. It seems that you don't, and you've thoroughly responded on the talk page, so you can go ahead and remove the notice. Maybe provide a link to the talk page discussion in your edit summary.Athanelar (talk)03:21, 12 November 2025 (UTC)[reply][reply]
I will ensure that the CEO of South African Production Company, Triosphere - Oloff Bergh - who has already given a permission-to-use letter for any of their photos (apparently not worded correctly), to write a different appropriately worded email to you for the photos that were previously entered here on this article, so that they can in fact be reloaded here.WikiAdd01 (talk)16:22, 20 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
