A request posted in May, 2004 asks for more technical details on how the network operates.
Isn't it a misprint? I haven't found anything about such an "upgrade" on Internet2 sites.MvR20:11, 18 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
100 Gbps is certainly not a misprint. Although it might not be acheived by 2006, 100 Gbps is something to shoot for. Just read some of the latest of Internet2's events PowerPoint presentations, and it talks all about "how do we get 100gbps?" or "beyond 10gbps" or "multiple 10Gbps links versus single 100Gbps" or whatever. 100 Gbps is definitely the goal, and certainly the goal is NOT "100 megabits by 2006" as someone edited this article to say.Robotbeat23:43, 20 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I propose we add a section that notes how Internet2 (meant to mean the Abilene Network) was used to justify the "Rumors on the internets" verbal slip by Bush at the second presidential debate of 2004. What do you think? I just updated the2006/2007 Upgrade section based on the information atthe Internet2 Network Upgrade blog but then realized that the entire article must now be updated to reflect the fact thatAbilene is gone and now thereis anInternet2 Network, despite the now obsolete info in theAbilene and Internet2 section of this article. Since I am not an IT professional or even a knowledgeable amateur, I cannot be sure that my changes (mostly of verb tense) reflect the current reality, that is, that the projected changeover from Abilene to the Internet2 Network occurred exactly as projected. Similarly I do not feel qualified to update the balance of the article. Perhaps an expert would prefer to wipe out my changes and rewrite this article -- maybe even redirect it to a newInternet2 Network Article -- the currentInternet2 article seems to be as obsolete as this one, and also needs an expert's help. Sorry I couldn't do better myself! —Blanchette (talk)04:11, 19 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
