Game 8

[edit]

While researching, I found a discrepancy regarding the final rally in Game 8. MLB.com and The Sporting News both say that Engle reached second base on Snodgrass' error, advanced to third on Hooper's fly ball and scored on Speaker's single. However, the Retrosheet play-by-play indicates that Engle was on FIRST base after Snodgrass' error, and advanced to SECOND on Hooper's fly, prior to scoring on Speaker's hit. I went with Retrosheet in the article. Would appreciate it if anyone else could resolve this.Vidor15:11, 16 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Lead

[edit]

I feel that the article's lead is poor, and should be improved with a re-write, which I'm not prepared to do at the moment. I make this comment in passing on the talk page as a possible note-to-self reminder to see about same, or else to encourage other editors to improve same if I don't. In my view, improvement would include things like: reducing editorializing, improving general flow of ideas, consistent capitalization etc. For the benefit of all, myself included, I link theWP:LEAD guideline as a brush-up.MinnesotanUser (talk)03:07, 28 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

also in Game 8 ...

[edit]

The Bill James Historical Abstract has this interesting passage about game 8. "In the fourth, Buck Herzog led off with a double that would have been a triple but for a special ground rule put in for the series, because of crowds that were supposed to be there but weren't [half-full as noted in the article]. If it had been a triple he would have scored, and the Giants would have won the game."PatConolly (talk)03:17, 1 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
