Takaki Promontory (65°33′S64°14′W / 65.550°S 64.233°W /-65.550; -64.233) is a promontory at the northeast side ofLeroux Bay, forming the west extremity ofBarison Peninsula onGraham Coast,Graham Land inAntarctica. First seen and roughly charted by theFrench Antarctic Expedition, 1903–05, under Charcot. Named by theUnited Kingdom Antarctic Place-Names Committee (UK-APC) in 1959 after BaronTakaki Kanehiro (1849–1920),Director-General of theMedical Department of theImperial Japanese Navy, the first man to prevent beriberi empirically by dietary additions, in 1882.
