Tahoua is one of sevenregions of Niger. The capital of the region is thecommune ofTahoua. The region covers 106,677 km².
Tahoua bordersAgadez Region to the northeast,Maradi Region to the southeast,Nigeria'sSokoto State to the south, andMali (Gao andKidal regions),Dosso Region andTillabéri Region to the west. Much of the region lies with theSahel, merging into theSahara desert in the north.
Tahoua is the regional capital; other major settlements includeAbalak,Bagaroua,Birni-N'Konni,Bouza,Illela,Keita,Madaoua andTchintabaraden.[2]
Tahoua is divided into 12Departments and one commune:
As of 2011 the population of Tahoua Region was 2,741,922.[3] The main ethnolinguistic groups are theHausa,Fulani,Arabs (Baggara) andTuareg.[4]
