TheSystem Service Processor (often abbreviated asSSP) is aSPARC-based computer that is used to control theSun MicrosystemsEnterprise 10000 platform. The term SSP is often used to describe both thecomputer hardware and thesoftware that are necessary to accomplish this task.
The System Service Processor software provided for the following functionality:
Severalutilities were provided with the SSP software packages, includinghostview, a program that provided anX Window System interface for platform maintenance, and severalCLI programs.
Normally, two System Service Processors were used per platform. One was configured asMain and the other asSpare. Only the SSP in the role ofMain could control the platform at any given time. Failover betweenMain andSpare was performed automatically by the SSP software.
