Sylfest Lomheim (born 11 March 1945 inHafslo) is a Norwegianphilologist.
He was the director of theNorwegian Language Council from 2003 to 2010. He is also associate professor (amanuensis) in theNorwegian language at theUniversity of Agder. He was rector of its predecessorAgder Regional College from 1987 to 1992.
Lomheim has written works on translation and language standardisation, and has worked in theNorwegian Broadcasting Corporation since 1980, both in radio and TV.
In 1997, under theJagland's Cabinet, he was appointedstate secretary in theMinistry of Children and Family Affairs.
