Susan Catherine Murray[2] (born May 1957) is a BritishLiberal Democrat politician who has been theMember of Parliament (MP) forMid Dunbartonshire since2024.
Murray was a councillor forKirkintilloch East and North and Twechar ward onEast Dunbartonshire Council from2017. until her Resignation in December 2024.[3] She is also a local businesswoman and charity founder.[4] She stepped down from this position in December 2024, causing a by-election, to focus on her work as an MP.[5]
At the2019 general election, Murray contestedCumbernauld, Kilsyth and Kirkintilloch East.[6] She increased the Liberal Democrats' previous share by 3.7%, coming last with 2,966 votes (6.5%).[7][8][9]
At the2021 Scottish Parliament election, Murray ran in theStrathkelvin and Bearsden constituency, where she finished fourth with 6,675 votes (14.4%).[10][11] She was also the third-placed Liberal Democrat candidate on the list for theWest Scotland region, though the party failed to return any list MSPs in that election.[12][13]
At the2024 general election, Murray stood in the newly-createdMid Dunbartonshire constituency, a key target seat for the party.[14][15]She was successful, taking 42.4% of the vote, with a majority of 9,673.[16][17]Murray's win came at the expense of theScottish National Party'sAmy Callaghan, who had represented the predecessorEast Dunbartonshire seat.[18]
Three weeks after her election, Murray declared a £2000 donation from one of Scotland's most prolific lobbyists.[19]
